Your dog must be up to date with heartworm prevention in order to be prescribed heartworm medication. Please see your veterinarian for a heartworm test if your pet is not currently on heartworm prevention or has missed more than 2 doses.
Interceptor Spectrum is a heartworm preventative that kills heartworm larvae and helps to control and treat hookworms, tapeworms, roundworms, and whipworms for dogs 22-45kg. It comes in a tasty chewable tablet that you should feed to your dog once a month.Uses
For the prevention of heartworm disease one month (30 days) after infection, and for the treatment and control of adult roundworm, adult hookworm, adult whipworm, and adult tapeworm in dogs.Precautions
Do not start in puppies below two (2) weeks of age.
All pets above six (6) months of age who are not on a current heartworm prevention program must be tested for existing heartworm infection before starting treatment with this medication.
Keep this and all drugs out of the reach of children. In case of ingestion by humans, clients should be advised to contact a physician immediately. -
Active Ingredients
23 mg Milbemycin Oxime and 228 mg Praziquantel -
Recommended Dosage
Feed one (1) tablet once every month, preferably on the same date each month. Consult your veterinarian for proper dosing instructions. Do not split the tablet to share between 2 dogs; cutting the tablet into 2 does not mean that there is an equal amount of the active ingredients in each half.Possible Side Effects
When used as directed on the label, side effects are rare.Reported side effects that usually are not serious include:
Vomiting/ Diarrhoea- while gastrointestinal side effects are usually mild and not concerning, please contact your veterinarian if this happens.Side effects that may be serious (extremely rare):
Neurological problems including sudden blindness, excessive drooling/foaming, seizures, severe weakness, clumsiness, coma, or if your dog is pressing its head against the wall. Breeds with the MDR1 gene mutation are more prone to such symptoms. If you see any of these signs, contact your veterinarian immediately.Drug & Food Interactions
Interceptor Spectrum has been tested to be safe in puppies aged two (2) weeks and older. The safety of the product has not been established in breeding/lactating/pregnant animals.Storage Instructions
